KTM North America in GNC

KTM March 22, 2012 - Dave and Rhonda Waters of the Waters Autobody/Project K Racing Team are pleased to announce the involvement of KTM North America to the world of AMA Grand National Flat Track racing. The team has been in constant communications with Brad Hagi, Vice President of Sales KTM USA; and through numerous discussions a contingency awards program has now been posted.

Waters Autobody/Project K Racing are excited to be one of many catalysts that have brought KTM into the oldest form of motorcycle racing that is an American original. "We feel honored that KTM has extended their current contingency program to include Flat Track.' This will help those of us already campaigning the brand and will offer more incentives to others.

The contingency program is available through the XTRM Performance Network and can be accessed through the following link, at XTRM.com. More information will be forthcoming regarding this program and other exciting news involving the Waters Autobody Racing from KTM Race Headquarters located in Murrieta, California.

Chad Cose Daytona RPT.

Hello Everyone,
Well Daytona Beach, Florida would yet again kick off another season of the AMA Grand National Flat Track tour. Playing host to the first two rounds of our series and taking place during bike week makes for an exciting atmosphere. The first stop for me was in Savannah, Georgia for the opening round of the AMA national All Star series. Rain in the area had been hovering over which shortened up our program drastically. We would only get one 4 lap practice session and go straight into our heat races taking only direct transfers and no semis. On a normal scheduled day we would have two 6 lap practices a heat and a semi if need be. I was also on a bike I had never rode before so I would have to make my adjustments quickly. The night only got more exciting from there as my pipe broke on the second lap of my one and only practice. I made the adjustments I felt needed to be done with the little time I got on the track. The heat races were set up to take the top 4 transfers to the main. I got off the line in about 6th and slowly worked my way to the front. I ended up crossing the line 3rd right on the heels of jeffery carver for a spot in the main event. We changed gearing and a few things on the suspension and went out for the main. I again struggled off the start and was sitting in about 9th. The changes we made were spot on and I felt I could make the moves I needed to get to the front. I worked my way past Pearson, Robinson, and Carver but in a shortened ten lap main event was too little to late to have any type of run at the leaders. I crossed the finish line in 5th. I was happy with how the result was and felt if we had more time on the bike and a longer main event we would have been in podium contention.

Next up would be the start of the AMA Grand National Flat Track season in Daytona. This would also be the debut of my new team C.R.C. Racing. We qualified 10th and I was excited to get out there and race. Maybe it was the long off season or the excitement of how good I felt but the heat race would prove to be a test to say the least. I ended up going down in turn one collecting about 3 other riders, one being a good friend of mine jimmy wood who suffered a broken elbow. I really hated to see jimmy get hurt like that the first race of the season on the first lap of the heat race. I hope he gets better soon. As for me I was a little beat up but in better shape than my bike. It wasnt in any condition to make the restart which meant I was headed to a semi. A third row outside start in my semi meant I would have to make quick work to get a top 3 transfer to the main. I got a great start and headed to the high line to pick off as many guys in turn one as I could. Unfortunately some riders went high and got into me and I went down once again. Another restart and this time I was on the fourth row. In my ten lap semi I went from 18th to 5th and posted the fastest lap time of the race. It was such a huge disappointment knowing I had the speed and coming from so far back to not qualify for the main, but that's why they call it racing.

Day two of Daytona I had a shot a redeeming myself and making up some points in the championship after failing to qualify the first day after just about everything that could go wrong did. In qualifying I was up to 2nd fastest overall at one point but would finish qualifying 14th overall. In my heat I went on to finish 6th and would have to go to a semi. I couldn't really hit the nail on the head with what was going on with my starts but I struggled off the line in Daytona. In my semi I got off the line 5th made the passes I had to and was about a bike length short of a win in my semi taking second and punching my ticket to the main. The track was brushed off and pretty slick which made for a pretty one lined race. I made about 3 passes and brought home a 15th place finish. Not the result we were looking to come out of Daytona with but we answered with some points after the horrendous first day we had. All in all I am going to stay positive about this one even though im definitely disappointed. There were some positives, My arms felt great after my off season surgery, we fought through a tough first night and we are healthy going into round 3 in Springfield, Illinois. Im sitting 15th place in points about 10 points out of 10th so im looking to make up some points come time for round 3. We have proven we have the speed to run up front at Springfield and a podium is definitely the goal. In the mean time I'll be preparing myself and bikes to be ready to go for that. Thanks to everyone on board this year, friends, family, fans, sponsors and everyone who supports C.R.C Racing.

Turbo's 12 Top 10

Years ago I used to love reading the Cycle News Daytona Previews. At that time they would make their picks on the upcoming season and we would find out who was riding what and get amped up for Daytona. Things have definitely changed since then, but I thought I'd throw my picks out there to get some bench racing going in the days leading up to Daytona. Please remember this is simply the opinions of casual fan and some of my information as far as teams could be wrong.
Enjoy,
Turbo

10th place
#23 Jeffery Carver

Singles: Carver Race Team
Bike: Yamaha 450
Motor: Woody Kyle
Tuner: Adam Cobb

Twins: Kiesow Racing
Bike: Harley Davidson 750
Motor: Eddie Adkins
Tuner: Dave Keisow

Carver is coming into his sophomore season as an Expert. I have been watching this member of the FBI for several years and he continues to impress me. This former Pro Singles Champion has what it takes to get into the top 10. We know his Yamaha 450's have been strong in the past as we saw with his podium finish at The Springfield ST last season. The Eddie Adkins built Harley's have always run well and we've seen several riders win races on Eddie's machines. Carver seemed to struggle at the beginning of the season last year but improved each week. Look for him to gain confidence and build on his rookie year.

9th place
#10 Johnny Lewis

Singles: Scott Powersports/JL10
Bike: Honda 450
Motor: Mike Scott
Tuner: Mike Scott/Tom Draina

Twins: Scott Powersports/JL10
Bike: Kawasaki 650
Motor: Mike Scott
Tuner: Mike Scott/Tom Draina

Johnny Lewis is a multi-talented rider and is a blast to watch ride. He brings a feel of fresh air to me as he isn't the same old story as far as dirt trackers are concerned. What I mean is Johnny has personality and isn't afraid to ruffle his competitors feathers. This former factory Supermoto Racer is strong at Daytona and seems to get better every time he rides his Ninja 650. I expect to see him upfront at many races, but am still looking for the consistency needed to be a threat at race wins week in week out. Don't be surprised to see him pick up his first victory at Daytona.

8th place
#27 Rob Pearson

Singles: Memphis Shades Racing
Bike: Yamaha 450
Motor: Babe Demay
Tuner: Clayton Shambaugh

Twins: Memphis Shades Racing
Bike: Harley-Davidson 750
Motor: Babe Demay
Tuner: Clayton Shambaugh

"Bugs" Pearson has been around this game for a long time. As a young amateur he battled the likes of Jared Mees and Henry Wiles to name a few. Bugs won national titles in the amateur ranks against those guys and was once dubbed "The next big thing" by none other than Nicky Hayden. I believe Bugs has the talent to do it and now he has the team to do it with. With Babe and Clayton hard at work to get Bugs the tools that he needs, I see nothing but improvement for the Elder Statesman of the FBI. Bugs needs to stay healthy and get consistent. He has landed on the podium a few times over the years and I feel he will be knocking on the door of a victory with the Memphis Shades Team in 2012. Look for him to start out strong in the All Star Races before the Daytona ST. Volusia half mile has been good to him.

7th place
#42 Brian Smith

Singles: 1-800 Fast Hog
Bike: Honda 450
Motor:
Tuner:

Twins: 1-800 Fast Hog
Bike: Harley-Davidson 750
Motor:
Tuner:
(note: Team information is unofficial as F4DT was unable to obtain team details from #42 before press time)

Brian Smith is one of the top riders in this championship. He has won some of the biggest races on the planet, Springfield and Indy. If you want proof of how talented he is just look back on how bad other riders struggled on the Monster Energy Kawasakis that Brian won on. This guy can flat get it on. The reason I rank him in 7th is consistency and the strength of his team. We saw Brian fall last year or break in several races. He was doing a lot of the work himself on the motorcycles and that can wear on a rider. It's hard enough to get yourself physically and mentally ready to do battle with these gladiators, but when you are spinning the wrenches as well it's very difficult to keep up the intensity for a full season. Brian will win races this year but I don't see him being consistent enough, especially on the 450, to get into the top five.

6th place
#17 Henry Wiles

Singles: Dons Kawasaki/Wiles Racing
Bike: Kawasaki 450
Motor: Ron Hamp
Tuner: Johnny Olmstead

Twins: Lloyd Brothers/ENI/Nicki Hayden Racing
Bike: Ducati 1000
Motor: Lloyd Brothers
Tuner: Lloyd Brothers

We all know Henry can win races. You would be a fool to bet against him at Peoria and the two Springfield singles races. He struggles at Daytona and Castle Rock but will score points at those races. What we don't know is how he will do on the Ducati. Joe Kopp and Brad Baker showed the beasts potential and Henry has experience on the big Aprilia. I see him winning 3 races minimum but his inconsistency on the big bike will keep him out of the top five. I expect him to do well at Lima on the cushion but I think he will miss a few mains on the slippery groove half miles and maybe a mile. Missing one main kills you but two or three will keep you out of the top five for sure.

5th place
#7 Sammy Halbert

Singles: Fredericktown Yamaha
Bike: Yamaha 450
Motor:
Tuner:

Twins: Kings Customs
Bike: Harley-Davidson 750
Motor:
Tuner:
(note: Team information is unofficial as F4DT was unable to obtain team details from #7 before press time)

What can you say about Slammin Sammy? This guy can ride anything. The young rider from Washington State has proven that he is a winner. Sam finished 4th in 2010 and 3rd in 2011. I have him in 5th this year because the competition is getting stiffer. Halbert Racing is a family operation and Sam does a lot of work himself on the motorcycle. I've known other riders from the great state of Washington and the daily grind of being on the road all summer can wear on you. Sam has great equipment with proven winners building his motors, but I feel the lack of a team effort, working on equipment himself, not seeing home for long periods of time, and all of the non-national races he does hurting his results at the end of the season. As a team owner there is so much more that goes into being prepared than just showing up on Saturday night and twisting the throttle. This guy has to not only race hard but worry about paying the bills and maintaining bikes as well as the team hauler. If anyone on this list proves me wrong it could definitely be the 7. Look for him to start out with a win at Daytona.

4th place
#2 Kenny Coolbeth

Singles: Chaplin Kawasaki
Bike: Yamaha 450
Motor: Ron Jewel
Tuner: Morgan Coolbeth

Twins: Factory Harley Davidson
Bike: Harley-Davidson 750
Motor: Craig Loger
Tuner: Craig Loger

The King of Cool is a past champion that has been around the block. The past few years Kenny has seemed to struggle a little and I'm not sure why. It wasn't too long ago that he was dominating on his factory ride. I think Kenny may just be in a slump and I see him coming out of it this year. It's strange to say but I believe he is the oldest rider in the championship hunt right now. I don't think Kenny is finished winning championships yet but I don't see it happening this year. Kenny won on his Kawasaki in DuQuoin last season and you know he will be a threat on the slippery groove half miles like Hagerstown. Once Kenny gets back in the hunt on the miles and gets out of his slump he will start racking up those valuable points needed. Keep an eye on the The King of Cool this season. If he gets back what he has been lacking you may see a #1 plate on the Factory Harley again in the near future, but 2012 will see him in 4th place at seasons end.

3rd place
#12 Brad Baker

Singles: Kenny Tolbert Racing
Bike: Kawasaki 450
Motor: Kenny Tolbert
Tuner: Kenny Tolbert

Twins: Kenny Tolbert Racing
Bike: Kawasaki 650
Motor: Kenny Tolbert
Tuner: Kenny Tolbert

Brad "The Bullet" Baker is the real deal. This Washington State native can do it all. In only his sophomore season as an expert you may think I'm crazy putting this former Pro Singles Champion in the top 3. I may be but this kid can flat get it done and he has a great attitude to boot. He is jumping on Kawasakis with who I think is the best mechanic on the tour, Kenny Tolbert. Kenny can build rocket ships and he also knows how to set them up. They will have their choice of C&J or J&M chassis to get it done with. I think Brad will also have the help of Chris Carr as a mentor, and as long as he listens to his new all-star comrades, he will win races this year. Brad Baker is the future of our sport and Kenny Tolbert picked a good person to win his 8th championship with.

2nd place
#9 Jared Mees

Singles: Blue Springs HD/Rogers Racing/Lucas Oil/Saddlemen/National Cycle
Bike: Honda 450
Motor: Jared Mees
Tuner: Brent Armbruster

Twins: Blue Springs HD/Rogers Racing/Lucas Oil/Saddlemen/National Cycle
Bike: Harley-Davidson 750
Motor: Brent Armbruster
Tuner: Brent Armbruster

Jared Mees is on a roll right now. After going a few seasons without a win he is back on his game. I don't see much slowing him down this year as he dominated the ICE series again over the off season. This guy is in shape, mentally focused, and ready to go. If it weren't for his mishap in California last year with the backup bike he may be carrying the #1 plate right now. Jared also has a very strong team which is crucial to winning championships. He still works on his own 450's and rides many non-national races but he is solid. I don't see those two things hurting him physically or taking a toll on him at the end of the year. The only track I see him struggling at is Daytona. That counts as two races which in a tight championship battle could be what hurts him at the end.

1st place
#1 Jake Johnson

Singles: Zanotti Racing
Bike: Honda 450
Motor: Dave Zanotti/Ted McDermitt/Steve Scott
Tuner: Dave Zanotti/Ted McDermitt/Steve Scott

Twins: Zanotti Racing
Bike: Harley-Davidson 750
Motor: Dave Zanotti/Ted McDermitt/Steve Scott
Tuner: Dave Zanotti/Ted McDermitt/Steve Scott

The Champ is here!!! Take notice now ladies and gentlemen, Jersey Jake is not giving up his number one plate at the end of 2012. The guy is riding phenomenal right now and his team is working like a well lubricated machine. I feel Jake has the strongest team in the championship, and that is what's going to help him win it again. All of these riders have the talent to be champions but distractions and mental toughness is what keeps them from living their dream. Jake is confident in his equipment, he is surrounded by the right people, he doesn't work on his own bikes and those little things help him succeed. All Jake has to worry about is Jake, and it makes it easier mentally, to know that when you show up Saturday night at the track everything has been taken care of. All he has to do is go fast, and let me tell you, this boy can go fast.

I have also comprised a short list of what we call "Wild Card" riders. These guys are on the verge of breaking into the top ten. With a little lady luck on their side they could easily do it. You never know what will happen in this great sport of flat track which is why you could see these guys on the podium this year and racking up those valuable points.

#20 Matt Weidman
Matt is again campaigning his own Honda 450's but will be getting help from the Greg Crow Racing Stable out of Peoria, IL this year. Crow has been around the game a long time and his good friend Charlie Gardner taught him a few things when it comes to building potent Harley's. Look for this team to grow into something to be reckoned with in the near future, especially Lima on the last Saturday in June.

#33 JR Schnabel
JR is one of my favorite riders. Maybe because we are close to the same age!! He struggled last year on the Kawasakis and will be back on familiar turf this season. His old Factory Suzuki mechanic Travis Smith is turning the wrenches on his RMZ 450 and XR 750 HD. I for one hope to see these two find some of their lost mojo and put it on these boys this year.

#37 Jimmy Wood
Jimmy showed flashes of brilliance last season. He is another team owner that is blazing these trails on his own. Travelling the circuit with his brother at his side, look for the 37 Ninja 650 to be up front.

#10Z Briar Bauman
Briar Bauman is turning expert after dominating the second half of the season last year in the Pro Singles class. With expert tuners Ronnie Brown, James Hart, and USC Racing Kawasaki at his disposal, I see a bright future for this young rider. Briar has a spectacular style and reminds me a little of the late great Ricky Graham. Maybe it's because they are from the same town?!?!?! Good luck in the big leagues young man, it's gonna be a fun season.

#28 Shaun Russell
I don't have a clue as to what kind of deal Stubby has. I heard he is putting together a program with Honda 450's and HD 750's. It may all be rumors as well, I'm just not sure. If Stubby can get on a good machine he can run up front. This likable Californian has what it takes, he just needs a break.

Well that's it from us at F4DT. Now you can digest this, dissect it or simply laugh at it, whichever you prefer. I'm sure there isn't one person that completely agrees with what I think but that's what makes it fun and that's why they line them up and figure it out on the race track. Hope to see y'all in Daytona. Let's go Racing!!!

Henry Wiles 2012

Henry Wiles The Dedication Continues: Henry Wiles Teams Back up with Don's Kawasaki for 2012
Starting back in 2010, Don's Kawasaki, owned by Don Kissinger, decided to create what is today, a champion team headed by Henry Wiles. Between the 2010-2011 seasons Henry brought home 8 wins and an AMA expert singles championship with the titled support from Don's Kawasaki. Even after a sustained injury to Wiles at the beginning of the 2011 season, there are no doubts by the team that another championship is in sight for the 2012 upcoming season

Henry Wiles states, "I am excited to be with Don's Kawasaki again this year. We have had a winning combination together in the past and I expect this year to be no different. Not only does he strive to make my program the best it can be but I admire his dedication at the amateur level as well."

Don himself grew up watching his father who started racing professionally in the 1950's for Triumph and then attended his own first race in 1971 at York Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania. He took over his dad's business in 1993 and decided to extend his knowledge of racing and all that it entails to riders at all levels of competition. It's the drive at the amateur level that brings a kid to be a top contender like Henry Wiles at the expert level

Don's Kawasaki could have sponsored any one of the riders at the expert level but he chose Henry Wiles back in 2010 for a specific reason. "I liked the combination and dynamics portrayed between Henry and his mechanic Johnny. They were a two man race team winning nationals out of the back of a van without a lot of money and or help. They were just hungry to win. I wanted someone who was determined to be on top of the box every weekend to represent my team. Henry has a good head on his shoulders and is committed to his racing no matter what kind of bike he is on."

Dons Kawisaki Don's goal this year is to put the bike on top of the box every weekend by providing Wiles with the best equipment possible that will be developed to suit him at each different style race track. More importantly, for Henry to stay healthy, uninjured and to go out and just have fun! In addition, Don's Kawasaki will have available at each race, Dunlop CD 2, 5 and 8 tires along with Sunoco 112 gasoline. Let them know ahead of time if they need to bring some for the other teams on the circuit.

With the combination of Henry's determination and talent as a rider and the support and confidence of the Don's Kawasaki Race Team backing him up, there are no doubts that 2012 holds yet another singles championship for the team. The team is excited for what events are going to go down in the history books in the upcoming 2012 race season.

Mees I.C.E. Champ

Mees ICE Champion Flint MI Indoor Ice Race - 28 Jan 2012
Since the I.C.E. race scheduled to be held at Glen Falls NY was cancelled due to the ice-making compressors breakdown, that made it possible for me to stay home and race in the Flint IMA Indoor Ice Race. Their format is a little different. The nice thing is you get to ride a little bit more in this race. Instead of racing in two Heats, you get to race in five Heats at least once. The local crowd gets hyped up, making it quite entertaining.

I was able to have a good night by winning all five of my Heats, and pull a hole shot, to win the Main Event. Henry Wiles, Tom McGrane, Chaz Springsteen, Doug Beattie, and Doug Lawrence, to name a few, were also racing there. It was a lot of fun for sure. The best part is that we got to ride outdoors on one of our Michigan Lakes the next day. Beattie (brother of Steve Beattie), Lawrence, Craig Pickett and Brian Smith ripped it up hard core on the ice. I had a blast riding with these guys.

Johnstown PA - I.C.E. Championships - 4 Feb 2012
Johnstown PA. was the final round of the Indoor Ice Racing Championship for 2012. It was a short series this year but next year it is supposed to be longer. I started the night off with winning Heat 1, had a tough battle in the 2nd Heat, but was able to pull it off. The ice was wearing fast so the track had to be shrunk way, way down, making it quite challenging in the Main Event for everyone. I pulled the hole shot and won the Main Event. It made for a perfect season for me... I did not lose a single Heat or Main. This was the second year I was able to do that, winning the Championship for the 4th time.

I want to thank all my supporters, especially Montgomeryville Cycle Center in Pennsylvania, Craig Pickett, Kold Kutter and EBC Brakes, and all those who helped me in this series this year.

I am now getting ready, and looking forward to the first "Bike Week" Flattrack race on March 9th in Savannah GA.

Thanks for all the support. Jammin' Jared Mees

I.C.E. Man

Mees ICE Championship SeriesJARED MEES I.C.E. CHAMPIONSHIPS - Rounds 3, 4.Loveland CO - 13 January 2012
I almost was unable to make this race due to the weather. Thursday night, into Friday morning we had a lot of snow. I was flying out on Friday morning for a Friday night race, cutting it close. My Friday morning flight out of Flint MI was cancelled. I called around, trying to get out of there, but the earliest the airline could was that day about 6 PM, way too late. Since I was getting refunded for my ticket, I jumped on "Cheap Tickets" and found one that went out later but was out of Detroit. I booked that and was on my way. I got there with no trouble and it worked out well because the races' announcer as well as the referee were on that same flight, so I was able to hitch a ride with them to the Budweiser Events Center.

I won both of my Heats and hole-shotted the Main Event, running my own race. With that, I won the 3rd round. I flew out on the red eye first thing in the morning, and went back home to go riding on the ice outdoors. That was a lot of fun... as there has not been much ice this winter and we haven't been able to get out there much.

Bloomington IL - 21 Jan 2012
For the race in Bloomington I was able to leave from home that same morning. This is always our biggest I.C.E. event, spectator-wise and riders-wise. The pit area has always been way over-packed, but this year the arena got us a good pit area, which gave us more space and was much nicer.

I drew two pole positions for my Heats, which was the first time this year I got the pole. I hole-shotted both, winning both of my Heats, setting the fast time to put me on pole for the Main. I grabbed the start and set sail. After three hard laps I cruised it home for the win.

We have one more race to go since the one to be held at Glens Fall NY was cancelled because the compressors broke down and they were unable to make ice. Instead, I am going to race the local indoor race in Flint MI this weekend for the Boulis Racing Group. Next weekend, on February 4th, is the last I.C.E. race, in Johnstown PA. The following weekend after that is the AMA Ice Race Grand Championships at Potters Lake MI, an outdoor race. That should be a lot of fun, if your anywhere close to the state of Michigan, come out and see for yourselves!

Thanks for all the support. Jammin' Jared Mees

C.R.C Racing

AMA GNC Grand National Flat Track racer Chad Cose has taken on the task to field his own team for the 2012 AMA Grand National Flat Track race season. The official team name will be C.R.C Racing and will compete in both the twins and singles classes. This will be Cose's 4th season as a Grand National rider and is currently ranked 18th in the country among the top riders in the sport. When asked about opting to field a new team Cose had this to say. " I am very excited about doing my own deal this year. With the way the economy has been the last few years there isn't much money out there and that means teams have little to no budget to go racing. Teams are cutting back and most guys out there are paying to get on a bike. I felt it would be beneficial to myself as well my sponsors to start C.R.C Racing and build it for years to come. I have had many great supporters through the years and plan to bring all my resources together to make it happen".

Cose has had great success through the amateur and pro-am ranks bringing in 6 AMA amateur national titles, a pro sport AMA national title and a second place AMA basic expert twins national title. He has come off his best season to date finishing 18th overall in the AMA championship standings but coming up short of the results he set out to accomplish. " I didn't have the best season in 2011 but im taking the highs and lows to gain knowledge to put forth to the 2012 season. Starting my own team will allow me to have a lot more input in the way I want my bikes and actually what bikes ill be on in general. I will be running honda 450s in the singles class and Kawasaki 650s in the twins class". Having a team also allows me to understand the business and marketing standpoint of racing better which will only help my career".

The AMA Grand National Flat Track schedule consists of 19 races covering each coast of the country and many places in between. The season kicks off in Daytona beach Florida for its traditional double header march 15th & march 16th. The conclusion of the series will be in Pomona, California October 13th. To become a partner or follow the progress of C.R.C Racing and Chad Cose you can find news, updates and race results on the sources below. " I would also like to thank all the great people on board C.R.C Racing for the 2012 season".

Waters Autobody/Project K

Jeremy HigginsComing off of 2010 with some great finishes and strong showings, we thought we had turned the corner and momentum was on our side. However, 2011 did not turn out to be the year the Project K Racing/Waters Autobody Racing team had hoped to have. Many things contributed to a less than stellar season and it was time for the team owners, Dave & Rhonda Waters, to reevaluate where things were going and what changes needed to happen to go forward into 2012.

One thing that was agreed upon after the final race in Pomona was to park the Suzuki's. The Suzuki's had become a distraction and had taken away the focus from our original goal. That goal being, to put another brand on the box of the highly dominated GNC Twins class and our weapon of choice was the KTM 950/990's with their dependable and reputable LC8 power plants. The final California race was less than kind to our riders and equipment and it was time to get back on track.

Many other dynamics played into the decisions but one thing had been plaguing the team since the start. The LC8 motors had more than enough power but getting it to the ground and through the corners was always a huge issue. The bikes loved cushions tracks and hauled on big miles but on hard packed 1/2 miles the handling flaws became more prevalent. Back to square one, get some fresh ideas and start over with the basics. Many great builders had tried to help but one in particular stood out. While in Sacramento, Marty Lewis from Lazer Racing struck up a conversation with Dave regarding the problems that the riders had been experiencing. Numerous conversations later, it was determined that a new chassis would be built by Lewis from San Leandro, California.

We have a great crew and some even better sponsors but we struggled with set up and needed to make some serious changes. We needed a person willing to do the homework necessary to work with the new chassis design and power plant combination. One name kept coming back into the conversation and after discussing at length our mission, it was decided to that Mike Boughner of Boughner Racing, located in Tawas City, Michigan would be our guy for suspension.

Boughner had this to say regarding the collaboration on the team, "I'm sure I can be an asset to your program and would look forward to the challenges of working with your KTM's."

Steve MurrayBut certainly the most exciting change has to do with the core of the team. We are extremely proud to have Steve Murray joining us to be Jeremy Higgins team mate in 2012. "Murrdizzle" as he is affectionately known on the circuit, has the experience needed to give the Waters Autobody Racing team important feedback required to make things happen. Steve, like his teammate Jeremy, is very hands on and both riders opinions will be paramount to take us to the next level of competition. Murray 26, originally from Grand Blanc, Michigan, was a regular on the circuit with the renowned Michigan Mafia crew. He currently resides in Kansas City, Missouri and has an Associates Degree in Website Design from ITT Tech & a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Cleary University. Steve has fielded his own race program with success but Waters Autobody Racing feels we can give both riders the support and opportunities to achieve the results they desire with this team and with the addition of our new sponsors.

Steve Murray: "I'm really excited to be joining the Waters Auto Body Racing team for the 2012 Season and riding their KTM Twins and having Jeremy Higgins as my teammate. I'd like to thank Dave and Rhonda Waters and all of the team's sponsors for the opportunity. Developing the KTM's will be a task but I'm confident that Jeremy and I can get Dave and crew the appropriate feedback to be contending for podium positions."

We are pleased to have Steve Murray and both Lazer Racing & Boughner Racing on board for 2012 and are excited about the possibilities that they both have to offer. We would also like to thank our existing sponsors that are back on board for the 2012 season. Bell Helmets, Arlen Ness, Motion Pro, Saddlemen, Silkolene Oils, Vortex, K&N Filters, Durelle Racing Wheels, Rekluse Clutches, Spider Grips, RLJ Race Engines, RK Excel, Leo Vince Pipes, D&$38;D Power Sports, Matto Cycle, Power Sports Institute & Hollink Honda. A special thank you to the following individuals for the support over the past seasons, Jack & Michelle Higgins, Chad & Norm Cose, Steve Fortunato, RJ Overholt, Guy Ruger, Brian Schultz, Yve & Will, Mike Owen, Staci & Jenna Waters, Mia & Chew, the AMA crew, KaTeM and various other families and riders of the Western New York race circuit. In the spirit of the upcoming holiday and race season, we feel truly blessed to have such a wonderful program and many exceptional people contributing and are looking forward to a great 2012.

F4DT: WHATÕS YOUR FUNNIEST STORY FROM THE RACES?
AS: I think it was in 05' or 06' we were on the way to Sedelia. We started off with no radio. It was raining cats and dogs, our windshield wipers didn't work, naturally, so Merle bought a tee shirt and wrapped it around the wiper then a semi came by and blew the wiper off! So, we continued our quest of nothing but pure hell and bought rain x and rolled into the races with no wipers! Before we got to the races we hit a deer that very same trip! Its fur was in the grill.
On another trip Lucas, Merle & Logan decided to play a prank on me and park in a corn field with the van turned off. They are evil!
In Knoxville this year I was so mad because the guys played golf all stinking day and I sat in the van because we couldn't check into the hotel yet! By the time they finished I told them "its 4:00 we could have checked in already!" So, Lucas & Merle made up a lie and told me "there's a time change here, it's only 2:00! I believed them... I could have killed them!"
I have so many stories I could write a book! But the last one I'll talk about was in Springfield in 07' or 08' Merle and his friends of course went out and got beyond wasted after the mile and would not wake up the next morning to start back to Texas. Lucas and I were livid so we hid the van keys to teach them a lesson! They had their suitcases emptied in the hallway searching for the keys! Looking like a bunch of fools! (Laughs)
LS: I was at a race and made an aggressive move as I was coming from the back! Corby (Scherb) won the race and had led every lap. I ended up getting 3rd. When I pulled off the track I noticed that Corby and the other racer was in a pretty heated argument. When Corby came back to the pits I asked what that was all about. He told me that the other racer thought Corby was me so he was the one who got the ear full!
Another funny story was when our buddy Phillip went with us to a race back in 06' we always played a game called the dark game which is a pillow fight with the lights off. After we got done beating each other up we called truce & acted like we were going to sleep. Then me and Merle jumped out of bed and flipped Logan and Phillip's bed over! They were pretty hot about it but me and Merle thought it was funny!
F4DT: WHAT'S SOMETHING YOUR WIFE/HUSBAND CAN COOK THAT YOU CAN'T?
AS: I'm not much of a cook so pretty much anything! Especially on the grill!
LS: Taco soup (laughs)
F4DT: WHAT'S A FUNNY STORY ABOUT YOUR WIFE/HUSBAND?
AS: If you know Lucas you know he is such a goof ball and so funny! He makes me laugh every day. But a funny story about him would be when he was pacing around our bedroom and saying something obnoxious! Then out of nowhere he hit the ground and was rolling all over the floor! I asked him what the heck he was doing and it turned out he stepped on a hornet! I don't even know how that happens, but he managed to do it! After I heard that I was rolling on the floor with him, but I was dying laughing!
LS: Ashtin wouldn't leave me alone about riding a bike so I finally said ok. She was doing fine but she just had to go through the pits and I saw a 4 wheeler coming but didn't think it was a big deal. As we got closer she starts faster and started veering to the left. The next thing I knew we were wide open headed straight for the 4 wheeler. Right before impact I managed to grab the clutch. As we came to a stop she still had it wide opened sitting there with her eyes closed! I had to tell her 3 times to let off the throttle because she was so freaked out! I think the guy on the 4 wheeler had to go check his pants!
